Leading Inside Out and the Collective Impact Forum created a toolkit to help guide community engagement efforts, with a particular eye on equity and inclusion.

The toolkit aims to take engagement beyond simply “checking the box” of public participation and instead authentically incorporating the perspective of the people that will be most impacted by changes.

The toolkit poses a series of questions that users should answer as they are designing their engagement strategy. These questions are valuable for helping users look at the external and internal factors that will impact their engagement effort. Perhaps most importantly, the toolkit raises critical questions about race, poverty, and marginalization that must be addressed for any engagement effort to be successful.
